Acrylic Vs Gel nails

because of the person in my comment box, i looked up some acrylic and gel nail information.
i have been doing acrylic nails for years, but have never seen or had gel ones.
so i got informed.

Pros of Acrylic Nails

  • If you break an acrylic nail you can almost always fix it temporarily and rather easily yourself.
  • The removal process is simple and straightforward if done by a professional. The nails can be soaked rather than filed off.
  • Acrylics are very strong. When done correctly and good nail care is practiced, they can last a long time. They’re robust!

Pros of Gel Nails

  • Gel nails often look more natural and glossy than other types of cosmetic nails.
  • The curing time is faster than acrylics, sometimes clocking in at just two minutes when light-curing is done.
  • Gel nail mixtures are odorless.
  • There is less filing involved during the application process.

Cons of Acrylic Nails

  • They can damage your real nails in a harsher manner than gel nails can.
  • Acrylics can look fake instead of natural and they can look even worse when done incorrectly.
  • It can be hard to grow out acrylic nails.

Cons of Gel Nails

  • They don’t last as long and are less durable than acrylic, even though they tend to cost more.
  • Gel nails are harder to do yourself if you like to do home manicures.
  • It’s been noted that nail polish won’t stick to the gel finish as well as it does to an acrylic finish.
  • If a gel nail breaks, you may be in for some trouble. It can sometimes be more of a shatter effect than a clean break, so self-fixing a break is not usually an option. You’ll need to make an appointment right away with your manicurist. Sometimes they do break cleanly; basic nail glue could be used in that case.
  • Gel nails almost always need to be filed off. You can’t just soak them away.

my judging?? acrylic nails win.

why? they last longer, hold polish better, if you remove the correctly they are less damaging, they cost less, and they are easier to DIY.
also,
i personally feel they look the same.

  1. I hope you don't mind my asking this on your blog when it's completely unrelated...
but if I remember correctly, you've gotten things (at least contacts?) from Pretty & Cute.
    Have you gotten anything else?
Or do you know if their other things are any good?
I was considering ordering some things from there. Cell phone charm (not worried about that) and some facial things. The acne and whitening stuff is what I'm referring to.
Do you have any idea if they'd be good? >w<

  2. most of the products that they sell i have not personally used but have seen other people use and their skin looks nice.
but most asian brand cosmetic facial cleaners and what not are made for asian skin types.
as all races have different skin types.

  3. Acrylics DO NOT damage your nails more than gels. It's aggressive filing and drilling on the natural nail that causes the damage and not all nail techs that apply acrylics do this (and they shouldn't). The main differences are:

    *Gels are odorless
*Gels are slightly more flexible (but still durable)
*Traditional (not soak-off) gels are impervious to solvents (like Acetone)
*Gels cure faster (99% cured in 90-120 seconds)
*Longer working time for the nail tech (doesn't get until it is cured)
*Gels are more pricey (because the product is more expensive)

My company manufactures both acrylic and gel products. Both are durable, can be applied to look natural and NEITHER ARE HARMFUL TO THE NATURAL NAIL (if applied and removed correctly). What you decide to use on your nails will be a personal preferance for you and your nail tech - but one is definitely not better than the other.

  4. i never said either harmed the natural nail, they simply make it thinner when they take it off. because the acrylic powder adhears to the natural nail.
[if it did not it would just fall off]
so when removed without soaking the acrylic bits do pull off part of the real nail.

and one is better than the other in my opinion.
this is my blog, and is full of /my/ opinions.
if you do not like it do not read it.
    thanks.

  5. No need to be rude to the lady, she's just sharing her opinions too. By that logic you should turn comments off. She's a professional and just trying to help.

Good points there, they're all true. Thanks for researching it.

I just prefer gels. That's all. If you use your hands a lot, gels are really great. mine always broke cleanly, and they're way glossier which I prefer. french tips are my thing though because at work we can't wear nail polish- boss hates it.

but acrylics can be fun for nail polish and designs.

  6. i was not being rude, and i never said she could not share her opinion. but she said "one is not deffinatly better than the other" which is a statement of a fact, not an opinion.
because to me, acrylics are definatly better.

i do not think i could work somewhere where they did not allow nail polish.

  7. For your gel nails, did you do an airbrush french tip? or did you do a white gel to get the french manicure look?
